Originally I am from Florida, one of those parts of that “great” state where the average age is about… 70. I am familiar with bad drivers, the people that live in my home town are the people on the news taking out fruit markets and random pedestrians. Every time I go back I drive the streets and me belief that if you are older than the highway speed limit you should no longer be allowed to drive is just confirmed.
The drivers here are equally as sucky. If there’s so much of a drop of any kind of percipitation - snow, ice, rain, mist, a heavy dew- they just lose control. They’re in such a hurry to make it to the grocery store as this could be THE END OF THE WORLD that all traffic laws are thrown out the window. Also this means that all residents must leave their houses at the exact same time to go to the grocery store right away. this includes the old people who throw out every traffic law except the speed limit, no one gets anywhere faster than 25 mph because they form some kind of old people caravan that loads up on the highways and blocks all ability to get around them.
We are a state of rubberneckers too. Yesterday I spent quite a bit of time at a full stop/crawl down one of our great 2 lane highways. I figured it was either people driving like idiots (the historic car or overloaded trailer that can’t do more than 10 mph that decides to get on the highway at 5pm), or perhaps an accident that everyone was stopping to see. Imagine my joy and delight when after 30ish minutes I get to the cause of the slowdown, a truck with a flat tire in the median and three guys sittin in the bed of it. Yeah THAT was definetly worth crawling to a stop to see.
The cheater used to like to take pictures of wrecks we passed because he was classy like that- it just pissed me off. 1) There could be people seriously hurt, do you want someone taking your picture then? 2) he slowed down to get a “good shot” just enhancing the traffic issues already taking place because people suck. He truly was an asshole on a multitude of levels.
Some basic rules- when you’re on the highway, just drive don’t be on the phone, looking around at wrecks and birds and whatever else you may see that is NOT ON THE ROAD. Do the speedlimit, don’t get in the fast lane unless you intend on doing MORE than the speedlimit, and use your damn indicators.

Having lived in 4 states of this nation (and driven in some 19

The worst? Marylanders, or perhaps just Baltimorons. They can’t drive in
a straight line to save their lives. That or they’re always drunk. But
Kentucky… I swear turn indicators and recognition of red lights must be
truly optional in the state laws.
