When your realtor calls from the house you just put on the market and says “so when was the last time you were at the house?” Know the next thing out of her mouth is going to be bad news.

Yesterday afternoon our realtor calls from Amazing One’s house, she’d happened to go by to take just a few more pictures, and happened to go into the basement even though she didn’t really need to. Imagine her surprise when she stepped down from the last basement step and into carpet with inches of water in it. Imagine my surprise when she called me to tell me that there were at least 3 or 4 inches of water in the laundry room down there.

Amazing one and I hauled ass back to his house to asses the damage and try to find the problem. Apparently the sump pump ballcock was stuck in the down position so it didn’t kick on at all for at least two days. This of course is following a torrential hail dropping storm Monday night. Oh the joy.

We spent the next 4 hours with him manning the shopvac in the main room of the basement and me manning the carpet cleaner in the other room attempting to get enough water out so that the water in the carpet did not splash up around our feet every time we walked. After about 4 hours it was as good as it was going to get and at least felt like a carpet that had just been shampooed as opposed to a carpet that had just gone swimming.

Needless to say after four hours on my hands and knees pushing a carpet cleaner around while leaning my full weight on it I am a tad on the sore side today. The good news though is that I can now use the word ballcock in normal conversation for a little while without anyone coming after me for sexual harrassment
