This past weekend I got to see for the first time in years a wonderful old friend. We’ve known each other since before we could legally drink and lord knows we had some great times running around. We spent a whole summer in a pre-med program which is ironic as neither of us became doctors. Regardless we were running around dorms and campus without proper adult supervision all of us 18 and under without a care in the world. As we went on to college even though we were at different campuses we continued our friendship and general troublemaking. We have some great stories, and thankfully little to no photographic evidence.
We had a great time catching up, it was one of those most amazing get togethers where it’s like no time has passed. Although he did spend quite a bit of time in shock and awe at the thought that I’m finally makin the big jump into marriage the rest of the time we spent just playin general catch- up and laughing over drinks as old friends do. It’s nice to spend time with someone who knew me before I got my first forehead wrinkle and back when I was not quite as um.. jaded and generally pissed off.
He in fact knew bubbly, innocent, naive and completely trusting emmy. Back when I was all wide-eyed and learning all about the world without parental oversight for the first time in my life. What a difference a decade makes.
The good news is I do believe we’ve reconnected and will stay in touch now which I greatly look forward to. It’s good to have friends around who’ve seen you at 19 after a night of heavy drinking when you wake up hung over as hell with 13 other people in a double bed hotel room 3 hours south of BFE. Ah those were the days
