Sarahspace and I decided to have an impromptu girls night dinner tonight to catch up and get some QT since we’ve both been uber busy. We met at a local Mexican restaurant that we both frequent as it’s about halfway between our homes and the food is always tasty. When I pulled in to the parking lot I noticed it seemed unusually busy for a Thurs night, but didn’t really think much of it.

Sarahspace pulled in about 2 minutes after I did and we walked in together. As soon as we opened the door we heard something…. unusual. Then we saw it. The place was FULL and I mean FULL and not just full of random people all having meals, it was full of old people. Old people being loud, old people there in support of the karaoke troop that was performing. Now I’ve seen karaoke done plenty of places, mostly bars really. I have never seen it done at a restaurant, and most definitely not this kind. This wasn’t anyone in the crowd come on up and sing, this was a group of three older men, and one woman who apparently “tour” the local area performing. It was SPECTACULAR. Truly. Of course given the crowd and where in town the restaurant is located most of the songs were country, old skool country too.

It was like we were in this hick Mecca. The people performing were actually quite good, one even apparently is an Elvis impersonator as well so he has the complete Elvis hairdo which was a trip cause he looks like fat and old Elvis if Elvis was a foot shorter with bad skin and big ole glasses. These guys were just tearing it up, and the “ladies” in the crowd were just going crazy for them. I saw the rarest of rare hairstyles which you normally only catch at the state fair- the old lady mid back 2 can’s of rave grey hair mullet. It was truly a thing of beauty. She was sitting with another rarity, the old lady librarian hair cut, nautical jumpsuit woman.

In the space of a few hours we had margaritas, fantastical singing, good Mexican food and a level of redneck watching that I normally do really only get at the state fair. Oh and someone (I think one of the guys singing) had a major “issue” with the smelling, but mixed in with the smell of Mexican food it was really hard to catch unless you were paying attention.

All in all it was a great friggen girls night. we may start frequenting this place on thurs nights now since I know they’ll at least be back there next Thurs. We can become groupies too!
